Liquid is the worst thing that happens to a Mac, and not because of what it does on the day. A drop breaks one component. Liquid gets under the keyboard, into the board and along the ribbon cables, starts corrosion that continues for months, and produces a machine that works perfectly for six weeks and then does not.
That is why this has its own page, and why we ask you to declare it even if the Mac dried out and has been fine since. There are liquid contact indicators inside that turn red permanently, we check them, and they do not care how well it is running today.
None of that is a refusal. It is a price. What it is not is worth hiding, because a declared spill is a number and an undeclared one is a phone call three days later.

The indicators tell us anyway
There are small strips inside that change colour permanently on contact with liquid. Declaring is not honesty policing, it is about the number being right the first time rather than revised after testing.
Sugary drinks are worse than water
Coffee, juice, wine and fizzy drinks leave residue that keeps drawing moisture and corroding long after the machine is dry. If you know what it was, say so. It genuinely changes the assessment, and it is the difference between a surface problem and a board problem.
Do not switch it on to check
If it is recent, power it down, do not charge it, and leave it somewhere dry and warm, ideally opened and face down. Powering up a wet board is what turns a recoverable Mac into a dead one, and every attempt makes it likelier.
Rice does nothing
The most persistent bad advice in computing. It does not draw moisture out of a sealed machine and it introduces starch and dust into the ports. Skip it.
Things that do not disqualify it.

- Some keys stopped working after a spill
- Trackpad clicking oddly or not at all
- Speakers crackling or muted since
- Screen with marks or shadows behind the glass
- Charging intermittently since it got wet
- Liquid indicator already red
