A notch, cut into the top of the screen

The clearest tell there is. If there's a small black notch housing the camera above your menu bar, yours is the 14 or 16-inch redesign from late 2021 onward. Unmistakably Apple Silicon.

No notch, but no Touch Bar either

Full-height function keys, plain and simple, with neither a notch nor a Touch Bar strip? That's the very first 13-inch M1 Pro from 2020, Apple Silicon wearing the old Intel-era body. Still exactly the machine this page is for.
